In October 2015, a new independent Global Study on the Implementation of United National Security Council Resolution 1325, “Preventing Conflict, Transforming Justice, Securing the Peace: The Future of Women, Peace and Security,” authored by former U.N. Under-Secretary-General Radhika Coomaraswamy, was launched at the United Nations. Channel grantee partner the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) helped arrange a conversation with Coomaraswamy and other prominent leaders like Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee, Center for Women’s Global Leadership Founder Charlotte Bunch, and MADRE Executive Director, Yifat Susskind. This was the first of its kind civil society consultation on the role of women in peace and security and the conclusions of the Global Study report itself, including practical methods for implementing its recommendations. Highlights from the consultation can be viewed here.
