In May 2025, Impatience Earth and the Disability Rights Fund (DRF), alongside Impatience Wellbeing, released a landmark publication titled Investing in Disability-Inclusive Climate Justice: A Guide for Funders. This guide marks a significant step forward in recognizing and addressing the disproportionate impacts of climate change on people with disabilities.

Developed through participatory research and global consultations, the guide makes the case for why inclusive climate funding is urgent, underlining the reality that people with disabilities—particularly those in the Global South—face heightened risks from climate change while remaining chronically underrepresented in both climate action and funding streams.

The guide is grounded in the experiences and voices of disabled people, especially those who also belong to other marginalized communities. It calls attention to how exclusionary climate frameworks, inaccessible emergency infrastructure, and insufficient policy engagement have left people with disabilities more vulnerable to health risks, displacement, violence, and poverty in the face of climate crises.

Importantly, the guide outlines concrete recommendations to transform the philanthropic sector. It urges funders to move beyond siloed and short-term funding models, and to embrace trust-based, flexible, long-term support for grassroots disability-led and intersectional climate justice initiatives. It highlights key actions including: making funding processes accessible, supporting disability-environmental movement collaborations, investing in intersectional research, and funding OPDs (organizations of persons with disabilities) to lead advocacy and design solutions.

This resource is an invitation to funders to shift their practices and recognize disability-inclusive climate justice as essential to building a more just and sustainable future.
