The International Indigenous Women’s Forum (FIMI) confronted the climate crisis alongside community members attending the Global Summit of Indigenous Women and Youth Summit at the 30th annual United Nations Climate Change Conference in Belém do Pará, Brazil on November 12-13, 2025. The Summit brought together 170 Indigenous women, youth and women with disabilities across seven sociocultural regions across the world. 

Attendees adopted the Political Declaration of the Global Summit of Indigenous Women and Youth that calls on institutions to address the urgent climate crisis with respect for Indigenous rights and leadership. They exchanged their knowledge and experiences as “guardians of global diversity” at the Summit to inform a collective voice. 

“Climate justice is inseparable from justice for Indigenous Peoples, and every decision about the future of the planet must be made with us, not for us,” the Declaration states. 

The Indigenous Summit requests include the protection of Indigenous women environment from criminalization and recognition of non-economic damages, such as the loss of language and culture.
