{"id":25516,"date":"2025-11-14T08:25:40","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T16:25:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trockwebdesign.com\/channel\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=25516"},"modified":"2025-11-17T09:26:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T17:26:07","slug":"film-screening-standing-above-the-clouds","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.trockwebdesign.com\/channel\/event\/film-screening-standing-above-the-clouds\/","title":{"rendered":"Film Screening &#8211; Standing Above the Clouds"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Join us for a screening of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/pov\/films\/standingabovetheclouds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Standing Above the Clouds<\/a> on <strong>November 17, 5:30 &#8211; 8:30 pm,<\/strong> at <strong>Morgridge Hall<\/strong>, <b data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">WARF Centennial Room 7560<\/b><strong>, UW-Madison<\/strong>, <\/span>1205 University Avenue<span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Madison, WI 53706.\u00a0 Organized by <span class=\"CardName CardName--full CardName--[object Object] css-1oyqnxm\">Makamae Sniffen (<\/span><span class=\"CardName CardName--accreditations CardName--[object Object] css-19tw5ve\">MEd, MA), t<\/span>he screening is in collaboration with UW-Madison&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/msc.wisc.edu\/cultural-centers\/indigenous-student-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indigenous Student Center,<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/msc.wisc.edu\/cultural-centers\/apidasc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">APIDA Student Center<\/a>, and Nelson Institute in celebration of <a href=\"https:\/\/students.wisc.edu\/native-november\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Native November<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Standing Above the Clouds documentary follows Native Hawaiian mother-daughter activists as they stand to protect Mauna Kea, a mountain sacred to them, from the building of the world\u2019s largest telescope. This documentary provides an example of continued Indigenous assertion of sovereignty, resistance, and resilience. Stemming from this, the hope and goal of the documentary is to encourage deeper, critical conversations around re-matriation, Indigeneity, and the importance of elevating and listening to diverse voices.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and will provide light refreshments. The screening will end with a Q&amp;A and reflection.
